Makami Kaya and Ruri from Shinagawa-ku

October 8, 2000
Kaya is a fan of Emiru, a member of a band called LaReine. (Unfortunately, LaReine's official home page has been closed since November 2000.) Kaya, a 9th grader, said she had stayed up all night to sew her costume. Then her friend chimed in, "It was my sewing machine. Hers got broken probably from overuse. So, I let her use mine." No wonder she was wearing plain clothes.

December 24, 2000
This time, Kaya was Cosplaying after Machi, another member of LaReine. She had made her costume, this time using her own sewing machine. The day was Christmas Eve. She and her friends, most of whom were fans of LaReine, had an open-air Christmas party on the vinyl sheet spread on the floor of the bridge. Luckily, it was a sunny day, and was pretty warm for December. Otherwise her dress would have been a wrong choice for the sake of cold protection. She also brought a Christmas cake she had made. Being minors, they toasted with a glass of grape juice. Some didn't even have a glass, but a paper cup. It was so much fun it seemed as though grape juice could be somewhat intoxicating...

April 15, 2001
The previous day, partially blooming cherry blossoms met with unseasonable snow. This day, though sunny, was still chilly. Kaya, Ruri and other friends went along to Yoyogi park, located within ten minute walk from the usual "bridge" they hang around. The park is well-reputed as one of the best places in Tokyo for hanami (cherry-blossom-watching). The gate they usually close at 5pm was kindly kept open on this particular Sunday best suited for hanami. Kaya, having entered high school this April, seemed happy she no longer had to study hard for entrance exams, but instead could concentrate on costume making. So did Ruri and some others who also entered high school this April. They all had a relaxing time. The sun just about to set gave the photos an interesting effect. As soon as the sun set, the temperature hit an unbearable level, and we all left.
